Lonnie (James Ransone, The Wire, Tangerine) is in a bit of a rut. Stuck in a dead-end house painting job, he kills a lot of time at his local bar or playing video games alone. Lonnie has a tendency to drink himself to sleep most nights, and he isn’t a stranger to showing up hungover for work. While being extremely personable, Lonnie is often out of step in many of his social encounters. He begins dating a younger coworker, Monica (Alexia Rasmussen), who sparks something in him. Lonnie pursues her with an attention that is absent from much of his life, but his hopes may be in vain. Shot in the suburbs of Chicago, Frank V. Ross’s Bloomin Mud Shuffle features strong supporting performances from Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll, Orange is the New Black) and Alex Karpovsky (Girls), and a score by jazz legend John Medeski.
“Frank V. Ross is one of the most inventive, witty and honest low-budget filmmakers.” – Sarah Salovaara, Filmmaker Magazine
It’s arguably one of the last great works to be labeled “mumblecore”… It’s better late than never to appreciate [Ross’s] understated observational genius.” – Richard Whittaker, Austin Chronicle
“Like Groundhog Day for Millennial slackers.” – Don Simpson, Smells Like Film Spirit
